Welcome to the first canon community review post!
Today's canon arc is Dio Brando the Invader, which covers Phantom Blood Chapters 01–05 or Episode 01, depending on the media you've chosen to review.
Which was your favorite scene in this arc? Did you prefer how the manga handled this arc or how the anime did? Anything in one media that you wished also appeared in the other? Let us know in the comments below!
(Sorry about the delay; I tried to set this up for scheduled posting, but I messed up one of the settings.)

Date: 2023-11-26 07:45 pm (UTC)SERIOUSLY! Dio is just totally out of control in the beginning. It's funny how later he's literally killing people and making women eat their own babies and stuff, but somehow it seems less insane at that point, maybe because at that point he's already (1) an adult and (2) literally inhumane. The expectations are different I guess... stuff like that is just what you expect a vampire tyrant to do. But the difference between what you'd expect of baby human Dio, who has never been done dirty by Jonathan even once, and how he actually acts, is just so much.
Erina's post-kiss mouth-washing remains so baller!! GO OFF GIRL! I could imagine a lot of authors handling that scene differently, but it's so much interesting and enjoyable with the detail of Erina's reaction. Even though Erina hardly does anything in Phantom Blood, I think Araki does a great job of making her personality shine through. Jonathan x Erina forever!!!

But my friend pointed out that Erina's reaction was still strong in its own way because it showed that Dio was so beneath her that she'd just wash her mouth with dirty puddle water. Erina, my queen 😭
